Nepal Guide Treks & Expedition presents one of the most adventurous and challenging trekking around Dhaulagiri and its massif range of mountains a full circuit at world’s seventh highest 8,167m. Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek offers to explore remote and less beaten zone of Himalayan region Nepal. The major attraction of Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek covers crossing the challenging 2 major passes (Dhampus Pass 5250m, French Pass 5360m), exploring the villages, high alpine valleys, lush terraces, dense forests, explore the Himalayan heritages, glaciers, lifestyle of remote villages etcetera. Apart from hard trekking, it offers mind-blowing striking views and scenery crossing two high passes walking on icy glacier and moraines in the deeply forested area, remote Magar tribes’ villages, and on the trail of the world deepest gorge and its charming Thakali tribe villages of Marpha-Jomsom.

Adventure journey of Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek with Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition Team starts from the beautiful Pokhara city. At the beginning, trek follows the low sub-tropic paddy fields then into complete wilderness of fast flowing glacial streams and Myagdi River all the way to its source at Dhaulagiri Base Camp the walk leads through deep forest of rhododendrons, oaks and pines trees. Gradually, journey goes ascend from Italian Camp to Dhaulagiri Base Camp. After a glorious moment at Base Camp, journey tempted to cross the French Pass then to Hidden Valley. After a safe acclimation day at Hidden Valley, we continue the journey to Yak Kharka & Jomsom via next important pass – Dhampus Pass.
After Jomsom, we would have numerous options to back Pokhara – either one can adjoin the scenic Ghorepani Poonhill Trek together with this trip or fly back to Pokhara.

Additional Information

Accommodations:
Generally we will provide three star rated hotel accommodation in Kathmandu and Pokhara in our inclusive cost, but as per the preference of clients, can easily upgrade or degrade. During the entire Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek, there would be tented camping accommodation set up by our Sherpa crew. We will arrange comfortable tents for accommodation, separate kitchen tents, dining tents, toilet tents and essentials.

Meals:
In general, our package trip covers inclusive of all meals Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner during the entire trekking, Bed and Breakfast plan in cities. We will have dinner and breakfast in a same overnight stop and lunch will be en-route of trekking towards next destination since we have to leave our accommodation after breakfast to continue the trek. During the trek, our Sherpa Cook will prepare hygienic foods (with varieties in cuisines; Nepali food, Tibetan, Continental, Indian etc) and purified waters to serve. Our working team will highly concern about the hygienic food preparation to totally avoid possible food poisons while trekking.

Physical Conditions and Experience Required:
Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek is a one of the adventurous and challenging trekking route in Nepal since we have to cross numerous numbers of high passes, walk through snow walls in a high altitude. Sometimes walking in a high altitude may occur unexpected sickness, slow and steady walk would be the perfect solution. We as a decade of experienced trekking and expedition operator agency in Nepal – we highly recommend daily around an hour physical workout a couple of weeks prior to the every trekking adventure trips in Nepal.  Previous trekking experience and physical strength would highly recommend for the Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek.

Best Season for Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek:
Basically, September, October and November 3 months in autumn and March, April, May 3 months in Spring are considered as a best trekking seasons for the Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek. The weather would be clear, sunny and warm in the mountains so we can have great views of mountains during the seasons. However, some adventure seekers who does not like crowded environment in the trail can also choose December, January and February months for this trip. June, July and August 3 months will be affected by monsoon. The region is also called “Rain Shadow”, where the effects of rain will be less than other regions so it is possible to do Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek in rainy seasons as well. 

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu [1345m/4411ft] & Transfer to Hotel
Our airport arrival and departure representative will be at Tribhuwan International Airport on your arrival schedule. You will be transferred to hotel and our staff will help you until check-in procedure ends at Hotel. Either you can have rest at Hotel or visit NGT’s office. In the evening, join our welcome dinner program organized by Nepal Guide Treks & Expedition Team. We also organize a formal program to introduce with our guide, where you can get full extent of information, plan and schedule of entire Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek.

Day 02: Drive to Pokhara [5-6 hrs drive]
Today we drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara along the scenic zigzag hilly roads. Pokhara is a beautiful town set on the banks of the Fewa Lake. Pokhara is tourist's paradise with full of natural as well as cultural heritage sites such as lakes, caves, temples of Buddhist and Hindus along with mountains. It is smaller and much less hectic than Kathmandu.

Day 03: Drive to Beni and Trek to Tatopani [3 hrs Drive & 4 hrs Trek]
From Pokhara we take another drive towards Beni - the starting point of our trek. Tatopani is the exact beginning point of our Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek trip. From here we start our trek following the trail through cultural and traditional villages before reaching Tatopani.

Day 04: Trek from Tatopani to Dharapani [1,470m/4821ft] [5-7 hrs Trek]
From Tatopani we follow the trail that goes along the Myagdi Khola passing through many villages inhabited mainly by Chhetri and Gurung tribes. We continue on our route by crossing the suspension bridge and start ascending gradually to reach Dharapani.

Day 05: Trek from Dharapani to Muri [1,850m/6068ft] [6-7 hrs Trek] 
From Dharapani we follow a rather easy trail passing through terraced fields of rice and wheat, traditional villages with scenic mountain views along the way. We continue our trek crossing a suspension bridge above Dhara Khola, we begin our climb from there towards Muri village - a Magar community based village.

Day 06: Trek from Muri to Boghara [2,080m/6822ft] [6-7 hrs Trek]
We follow the trial by descending down a rather steep slope from Muri and then crossing the suspension bridge over the Muri Khola. From there we continue our trek through the bamboo filled forest and farmhouses. We follow the north route where the valley widens; we emerge to the open fields before reaching Boghara.

Day 07: Trek from Boghara to Dobang [2,500m/8200ft] [6-7 hrs Trek]
From here we walk along the west bank of Myagdi Khola through the lush sub tropical forest towards Lipshe. From there our trek continues passing through traditional villages where we can get a glimpse of villagers trying to collect honey from high above the trees and hills. We follow the trail through the forest to reach Dobang where there are several tea houses with good camping sites.

Day 08: Trek from Dobang to Sallaghari [2,820m/9249ft] [5-7 hrs Trek]
From Dobang the route heads through dense rhododendron and bamboo filled forest. We then cross Myagdi Khola over the brigde, and follow the trail that goes along the east bank of the Myagdi Khola. Following the deep lush forest we approach towards Sallaghari.

Day 09: Trek from Sallaghari to Italian Base Camp [3,660m/12004ft] [5-6 hrs Trek]
We follow the trail through the dense rhododendron, pine and birch trees before climbing up to a open area on the lateral moraine. Heading little further we arrive at the Italian Base Camp from where we can see the up-close west view of Mt. Dhaulagiri 8167m.

Day 10: Rest and acclimatization day at Italian Base Camp
As acclimatization is very important in the higher altitudes, today we take a day rest for acclimatizing before climbing up to higher altitude towards Dhaulagiri Base Camp. Besides, exploration around Italian Base Camp can be of good idea while we have a day off.

Day 11: Trek to Glacier Camp [4,200m/13776ft] [6-7 hrs Trek]
Glacier camp is situated between Italian Base Camp and Dhaulagiri Base Camp. Our trail descends steeply down towards the glacier. Since following our trail here is difficult we need to be well equipped. After crossing the glacier we walk along the moraine on the left side of Chonbarden gorge. Following the narrow trail we head towards Glacier Camp for the overnight camping.

Day 12: Rest and acclimatization day at Glacier Camp 
Today we take a rest at Glacier camp for acclimatization because ascending from Italian Base Camp 3660m to Dhaulagiri Base Camp 4740m can result in altitude sickness and generate difficulty in health conditions. It is very necessary for us to keep ourselves healthy and fit before we continue further up in the high altitudes.

Day 13: Trek to Dhaulagiri Base Camp [4,700m/15416ft] [5 hrs Trek]
From Glacier camp we follow a rough trail along the moraine which is snow covered and icy. Carefully moving our steps, one at a time slowly we continue our walk over the glacier and head towards Dhaulagiri Base Camp.

Day 14: Rest and acclimatization day at Dhaulagiri Base Camp
Another day rest is crucial at Dhaulagiri Base Camp for acclimatization before crossing the French Pass 5360m. Besides, Dhaulagiri Base Camp offers the best view of Dhaulagiri 8167m, Dhaulagiri II 7751m, Dhaulagiri IV 7618m, Tukuche Peak 6920m and other surrounding high peaks. Hence, exploration around the area can be worthwhile.

Day 15: Trek to Hidden Valley [5050m/16564ft] via French pass [5,360m/17580ft] [8-9 hrs Trek]
Today we start early following the trail that crosses over to the left of the upper Chonbarden glacier. We continue to climb a steep uphill towards the lateral moraine ridge with inspiring views of Dhaulagiri I and Tukuche Peak. Then we make a final ascent for the crossing of the challenging French Pass 5360m. We approach towards the top of the pass where multi colored prayer flags dances with the wind. Stunning view of Dhaulagiri 8167m, Tukuche Peak 6920m, Mukut Himal 5970m, Sita Chuchura 6611m, Tashi Kang 6386m and other high peaks is surely a lifetime achievement. After spending quality time at the French Pass we continue our trail by descending through moderate snow slopes. After a long descent we follow our trail that leads to the hidden valley.

Day 16: Free Exploration at the Hidden Valley 
After the successful crossing of the French Pass, today we rest at Hidden Valley. From here we can choose between several options for day walks around Hidden Valley. The best option would be a walk up to the western ridge from where we get the magnificent view over Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Nilgiri and the lowers parts of Hidden Valley. Most importantly, Hidden Valley is the starting point for mountaineers seeking to climb Dhampus Peak 6060m.

Day 17: Trek from Hidden Valley to Yak Kharka [3680m/12070ft] via Dhampus Pass [5,240m/17187ft] [7-8 hrs]
Today we start early, leaving the Hidden Valley we follow the trail that climbs up a moderate snow slope towards the crossing of Dhampus Pass 5240m. After successfully crossing the pass we make a steep descend entering into the Kali Gandaki Valley. We make a rather long traverse across the snow which usually takes around four hours before descending further down towards Yak Kharka.

Day 18: Trek from Yak Kharka to Jomsom [2,670m/8757ft] [5-6 hrs Trek]
Today we follow the trail that descends from Yak Kharka for a rather long time before reaching the village of Marpha - the Apple Garden. From Marpha we walk an easy trail heading towards Jomsom. Jomsom is an important hub for Mustang and Upper Mustang Treks with the airstrip, abundance of tea houses and services. This is a celebration day after successfully accomplish Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek with NGT Team. Evening enjoy with NGT Team.

Day 19: Morning flight to Pokhara. Free day for Exploring & Sightseeing.
We take an early morning scenic flight from Jomsom to Pokhara. Pokhara is home to thick forest, emerald lakes and a place of remarkable natural beauty. The reflection of the Machhapuchre (Fish-Tail) Himal over the serene Fewa Lake makes this place truly magical. Besides, visiting sacred places and sightseeing around the city in Pokhara could be a good way to spend your day.

Day 20: Drive back to Kathmandu
It takes approximately four to five hours drive to reach Kathmandu from Pokhara. We drive along Prithivi Highway which offers scenic hilly zigzag roads through the banks of Trishuli River.
