Trip Introduction;
A magnificent adventure, Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek is situated at far Eastern Himalayan range of Nepal, bordering with Nepal – India border. Mt. Kanchenjunga 8586m is a world’s third-highest mountain in the world. Journey to entire circuit of Mt Kanchenjunga, a challenging trek takes longer in duration, offering splendid panorama of Himalayan range, lush terraces, sub-tropical forests of Rhododendron, Oaks, Pine, and chestnut, charming villages into the remote and isolated corner of Nepal. Highlights of the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek include beginning from very low altitude and climb up to above 5000m elevation from sea level.

Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek in Nepal with Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition begins with a flight from Kathmandu to Biratnagar – an industrial town. Then we take a full day drive towards mid hills at Taplejung. Trail follows isolated farmlands, traditional cultural villages seldom frequented by trekkers, the walk at first passes the mid hills of Kirat, Hindus tribe people and then heading higher settlement of Sherpa and Bhotias tribes from the Tibetan Buddhism culture and religion. Accommodations:
For Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek package we provide three star rated hotel accommodation in Kathmandu. Since the trek is located inside remote and less beaten mountain regions of Nepal, there are not comfortable tea houses available at all places. So we will provide tea house accommodation at available places and will provide tented camps for rest of the places. Our Sherpa Crew will set up comfortable camping accommodation by choosing good campsites. During the camping days, you will be provided with good mattresses and sleeping bags.

Meals:
Our package trip covers cost of all meals (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner) during the entire trekking and the cost of Breakfast in Kathmandu. At places where there are teahouses, we will have dinner and breakfast in the same tea house. En-route we will make stop for lunch and continue further trekking. You are served wide varieties of food - Nepali food, Tibetan, Continental, Indian, Italian etc by choosing in the menu. However, when camping - our kitchen team will prepare hygienic foods to serve you. There might not be several choices of foods during the camp as in the tea houses and restaurants but the food served will be healthy and hygienic much needed for the trek.

Physical Conditions and Experience Required:
Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek is one of the longest trekking in Nepal. The trek crosses several high altitude points and several hill stations. Trekking in high altitude results in unexpected high altitude sickness - in such case, slow and steady walk will be the perfect option. We suggest every trekker who are planning to come Nepal for trekking to do daily one-hour physical workout (jogging, hiking, cycling, gym, etc) prior to a couple of weeks. Previous trekking experience and physical strength would highly recommend for the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek.

Best Season for Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek:
Trekking in Nepalese mountain is a seasonal activity. Best Trekking Season: 3 months in Autumn (September, October & November) and 3 months in Spring (March, April & May). During this time of the year, the weather would be clear, sunny and warm - allowing trekkers to capture some of the best mountain views. For trekkers having difficulty with the time schedule - trekking around Kanchenjunga can also be done around December, January, and February. Monsoon season three months (June, July, and August) comes with heavy rainfall and is considered no good fro trekking.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu [1345m/4411ft] and Transfer to Hotel
Our airport arrival and departure representative will be at Tribhuwan International Airport on your arrival schedule. You will be transferred to hotel and our staff will help you until check-in procedure ends at Hotel. Either you can have rest at Hotel or visit NGT’s office. In the evening, join our welcome dinner program organized by Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition Team.

Day 02: Sightseeing at Kathmandu 
Note: It is not possible to visit all world heritage sites in Kathmandu within a day. So you can choose at least 3-4 places for a day sightseeing.

Day 03: Fly to Biratnagar & Drive to Taplejung [1442m/4729ft] [45 Min Flight & 5-6 hrs Drive]
After breakfast we will take a scenic flight from Kathmandu to the airstrip of Biratnagar that takes approximately about 45 minutes. After landing we will take a drive from Biratnagar to reach Taplejung - the starting point of the trek.

Day 04: Trek from Taplejung to Mitlung [920m/3017ft] [5-6 hrs Trek]
The first day of our adventurous trekking starts from Taplejung. It is an easy and short walking day. We will gradually descend to arrive near Tamur river. We will continue to follow the trail towards a small farming village of Mitlung which is surrounded by paddy.

Day 05: Trek from Mitlung to Chiruwa [1270m/4165ft] [4-5 hrs Trek]
Leaving Mitlung , we will follow the trail that climbs for a while before descending to the beautiful village of Sinwa. Sinwa is a small village with a school . The children of the school are always happy to meet visitors. We will trek passing through Tawa and then make an ascent before crossing a suspension bridge at Thiwa. With great views of surrounding valleys we will arrive at Chiruwa for our overnight camping.

Day 06:  Trek from Chiruwa Trek to Sekathum [1576m/5169ft] [5-6 hrs Trek]
We will start to follow the trail that is an uphill climb for about thirty minutes. As we continue to trek forward, the valley becomes broader. We will gradually descend down to the meadows  where we will make a stop for registration at park office. From there we will cross the river and continue trekking in a flat trail before dropping down to cross Tamur river. From there a short trek leads us to Sekathum.

Day 07: Trek from Sekathum to Amjilosa [2308m/7570ft] [5-6 hrs Trek]
Today's trek is comparatively tough as we follow the trail that becomes extremely narrow and slippery. We will make a steep uphill climb and then descend down before crossing a wooden bridge and continue our climbing trek until we arrive at Solima. From there our trail descends down to the river bed and cross the river once more before ascending over zigzag hilly trails to reach Amjilosa where there are couple Tibetan lodges situated on the hillside and above the gorge.

Day 08: Trek from Amjilosa to Gyabla [2730m/8954ft] [6-7 hrs Trek]
Leaving Amjilosa we will trek through dense forest filled with rhododendron, oak and bamboo trees. In a short time we will arrive at a small stone house beside the river. We will continue to climb uphill towards a small Tibetan settlement of Gyabla.  The atmosphere at Gyabla is a typical alpine region atmosphere with cooler air and rather thin vegetation.

Day 09: Trek from Gyabla to Ghumsa [3550m/11644ft] [5-6 hrs Trek]
We will gently descend and drop down to the bottom of the river bed. From there we will walk along the pine forest and soon the valley widens as we approach a large Yak herder settlement at Phole. From there it takes approximately two hours of trekking to reach the Sherpa village of Ghumsa. We can take a walk up to a small hydro-electricity power plant which plays a significant role in sustaining the livelihood of the local people at Ghumsa.

Day 10: Rest day at Ghumsa
Acclimatization is very important to avoid mental and physical sickness. Hence, today we will rest at Ghumsa for acclimatization and exploration. The best route for acclimatization goes through forest areas and heads up towards Lapsan La at 4200 meters. At Ghumsa , it is possible to make a phone call back home  or send some postcards to our family and friends.

Day 11: Trek from Ghumsa to Khambachen [4050m/13284ft] [5-6 hrs Trek]
Leaving Ghumsa we will follow the trail that goes along the east bank of the river. We will cross a bridge at Rampuk Kharka and continue our trek that passes through a sacred waterfall before crossing a large landslide affected areas. There is always a danger of stone falls in the landslide affected areas, so we need to cross this area as quickly as we can. The first view of Jannu can be seen from above the ridge. After a long day of trekking we will arrive at Khambachen.

Day 12: Trek from Khambachen to Lhonak [4780m/15678ft] [6-7 hrs Trek] 
Now our trail goes along the north bank of the river. Our trail can be very slippery and icy, carefully moving our steps one at a time we will cross a bridge and then make a climb to reach the grazing grounds of Ramtang. From there we will pass through the village of Ghunsa and continue to follow the trail that becomes narrow and loose before descending down to the river and head to Lhonak

Day 13: Hike to the Pangpema view point [5388m/17672] and back to Lhonak [3-4 hrs Trek]
Today we will make a hike upto Pangpema at 5388 meters. We follow the trail that goes along the edge of the glacier, some rocky sections, narrow landslide areas towards Pangpema. Pangpema is a flat and grassy base camp with few porter huts. From the top, we will have stunning views of beautiful valleys and hihgh mountains like Kanchenjunga's North Face, Chang  Himal, Kirat Chuli and other surrounding peaks. We will retrace our steps back to reach back to Lhonak.

Day 14: Trek back from Lhonak to Ghumsa [4-5 hrs Trek] 
Leaving Lhonak, we will descend down the valley to reach Ramtang. Along the route we will have opportunity to spot blue sheep trying to find food on steep mountain sides. We will continue our trekking until we reach Ghumsa.

Day 15: Trek from Ghumsa to Sele La base camp [4200m/13776ft] [5-6 hrs Trek] 
We will follow the trail that passes through villages and the hydro electricity plant before making an ascent into the dense forest filled with rhododendron and juniper. We continue our trek with steep ascent and emerge on top of a ridge. We will follow the trail that goes along the south side of the ridge. From there we make will trek until we reach Sele Le.

Day 16: Trek to Cheram [3870m] [3-4 hrs Trek] 
We start our trek with a climb up towards a ridge from where we can get magnificent views of east face of Makalu and south side of Jannu. We head towards the crossing of Mirgin La Pass at 4480 meters and then descend before climbing again towards Sinelapche La at 4730 meters. From the top we will make a steep descent to reach Cheram.

Day 17: Trek from Cheram to Ramche [4580m/15022ft] [5-6 hrs Trek] 
Leaving Cheram we will trek through alpine meadows and follow the lateral moraine of Yalung Glacier that eventually leads to Ramche after few hours of trekking. From here the views of surrounding mountains is an unforgettable experience as the evening sun light spreads at the high snow capped mountains.

Day 18: Trek to Yalung base camp [4500m/15022ft] & back to Cheram [4-5 hrs Trek] 
From Ramche we will trek towards Yalung base camp which can be reached without ropes and climbng equipments. After a short excursion at the base camp, we will retrace our steps and follow the same trail back to Cheram.

Day 19: Trek from Cheram to Tortong [2995m/982360ft] [5-6 hrs Trek] 
From Cheram we will gently descend down the valley passing through forest areas and continue trekking on the trail that goes along the Simbuwa river to arrive at Tortong. Tortong is situated beside the banks of Simbuwa river with three teahouses and offers good camping sites for adventure seeking trekkers.

Day 20: Trek from Tortong to Yamphudin [2080m/6822ft] [5-6 hrs Trek] 
Leaving Tortong we will cross the bridge over the Simbuwa Khola and then follow the trail that goes along the left bank of the gorge before ascending above the valley towards Lasiya Bhanjyang. From the top we will descent down to arrive at the river. We will cross across the river and continue further trekking into a beautiful Sherpa village of Yamphudin.

Day 21: Trek from Yamphudin to Mamangkhe [1785m/5855ft] [5-6 hrs Trek] 
Today we will descend to the west side of Kabeli Khola while trekking through less dense forest. We will climb a switchback towards a ridge where there are chortens and prayer flags. We will continue to ascend across the Kabeli Khola to reach the village of Mamangkhe. The village is largely inhabited by Limbu tribe community.

Day 22: Trek from Mamangkhe to Ksesuwa [2120m/6953ft] [5-6 hrs Trek] 
The first part of the trek from Mamangkhe is an ascent through rice terraced fields into a side cannon. From there we will cross the suspension bridge and head towards the village of Phonpe. Here onwards it is an easy downhill trekking through several waterfalls and small streams all the way to Ksesuwa village which is inhabited by Limbu and Gurung tribe communities.

Day 23: Trek from Ksesuwa to Lalikharka [2265m/7429ft] [5-6 hrs Trek] 
From Ksesuwa we will follow the trail that has several ascents and descends. We will pass through the villages of Kunjari and Bhanjyang with magnificent views of Kanchenjunga and Kyabru. We will enter into the Kabeli Khola valley and from there climb through dense forest filled with rhododendron trees to reach Lali Kharka.

Day 24: Trek from Lalikharka to Taplejung [4-5 hrs Trek] 
Today is the last day of our trek. Leaving Lalikharka we will trek through rich pastures and wonderful settlements. After several ups and downs we will arrive at Taplejung for our overnight stay.

Day 25: Drive back to Biratnagar 
After breakfast we will take a drive from Taplejung and head towards Biratnagar. Along the drive route we can see the activities of local people for daily survival while we drive through several villages and towns. After arriving at Biratnagar we can relax and celebrate the completion of the wonderful Kanchenjunga circuit trek.

Day 26: Fly to Kathmandu
