Trip Introduction:
Bhutan Sightseeing Tour is an excellent opportunity to explore the cultural, traditional and historical aspects of the beautiful Himalayan Kingdom - Bhutan. Bhutan is the only country in the world where productivity is measured in terms of Gross National Happiness. The country comprises of beautiful sacred valleys, monasteries, well-preserved monuments and rich Buddhist culture. Bhutan Sightseeing Tour is designed to provide you a lifetime experience in the heart of two Himalayan countries - Nepal & Bhutan.    

Bhutan Sightseeing Tour with Nepal Guide Treks starts at Kathmandu. We spend a full day sightseeing around Kathmandu Valley before continuing our journey to Bhutan. From Kathmandu, we fly to Paro Valley with good views of high mountains and lush green forest. At Paro, we will visit Rimpung Dzong - a school for monks and take a walk through the town. Then we take a drive to Punakha for a whole day sightseeing. From Punakha, we continue our journey towards Gangtey Gonpa. Gangtey Gonpa is well known for its sacred relics in Bhutan. After spending an exploration day at Gangtey Gonpa, our journey continues with a drive to the capital city of Bhutan - Thimpu. We will visit National Library as well as Institute for Zorig Chusum where we can watch students doing traditional arts such as wood carving, painting, and ceramics. From Thimpu, we drive to one of the most sacred and remote valleys of Bhutan - Haa Dzongkhag to explore beautiful Bhutanese temples including Lhakhang Nagpo (Black Temple) and Lhakhang Karpo (White Temple). From Haa Dzongkha, we return back to Paro and make a hike up to Taktsang Monastery - popularly known as Tiger's Nest. We will also visit the ruins of the Drukgyal Dzong fortress. Our wonderful experience at Bhutan Sightseeing Tour with Nepal Guide Treks ends with a flight from Paro to your preferred destination or back to Kathmandu.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu [1345m/4411ft] and transfer to Hotel.
Our airport arrival and departure representative will meet you at Tribhuvan International Airport on your arrival schedule. You will then be transferred to the hotel. Our representative will assist you until check-in procedure ends at Hotel. Either you can have a rest at the Hotel or visit NGT’s office for brief discussion about the trip. In the evening, join our welcome dinner program organized by Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition Team.

Day 02: Sightseeing world heritage sites at Kathmandu

Note: It is not possible to visit all world heritage sites in Kathmandu within a day. So you can choose at least 3-4 places for a day sightseeing.

Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Paro [2200m/7216ft]
Today you will be transferred to International Airport for a scenic mountain flight from Kathmandu towards Bhutan's only International airport at Paro. You will be greeted by Nepal Guide Trek's representative at your arrival schedule at Paro Airport. We will then drive towards Paro City for having Lunch. After lunch we will visit Ta Dzongs which is an ancient watchtower that was converted to National Museum of Bhutan in 1968. We will get a brief glimpse of Bhutanese history, culture and tradition at the Museum. Then, we will visit Paro Rimpung Dzong which is located below the National Museum. A short distance of walking will lead us through are several number of archery grounds where we might get lucky to catch an archery match in action. As a matter of fact, Archery is the national sport of Bhutan. We will spend our overnight at Paro.

Day 04: Drive from Paro to Punakha [1350m/4428ft] [5-6 hrs Drive] via Thimpu
After breakfast we will take an hours's drive from Paro towards Thimpu. After a short stop at Thimpu - our drive journey continues with a scenic drive over through Dochula Pass at 3050 meters which offers panoramic views of Himalayan ranges of Bhutan including Mt. Gangar Punsum 7520 meters. From the top of the pass our drive journey descends towards the fertile valley of Punakha for our night stay. We will spend an additional day here at Punakha sightseeing and exploring around Punakha. Overnight at Punakha.

Day 05: Exploration day at Punakha 
At Punakha, we will visit Punakha Dzong (second oldest and second largest Dzong of Bhutan) - fortress that was built in 1637 by Zhabdrung Rinpoche. Punakha Dzong is remarkably located between the two rivers of Mo (Female) Chu and Pho (Male) Chu and houses the most elaborated temple in Bhutan. It is the ancient capital of Bhutan and served as the winter capital (settlement) for more than 300 years. Then we will make a hike through pleasant paddy fields and farmhouses to arrive at the temple of Chimi Lhakhang. Chimi Lhakhang is the famous fertility monastery that was built in 1456. The temple is significantly associated with the religious arts of Bhutan. We will spend some time exploring around Chimi Lhakhang before heading back to our hotel at Punakha for the overnight stay.

Day 06: Drive from Punakha to Gangtey Gonpa [2-3 hrs Drive]
We start our drive journey from Punakha towards Gangtey. Our drive is a scenic journey as we pass along the beautiful forest filled with rhododendron and oak trees over to Pepe la pass at 3420 meters. From the top of the pass we can enjoy magnificent views of high mountains including Mt. Chomolhari. We will make several stops during our drive today for visiting several sites of interest along our route. We will spend our overnight at Gangtey.

Day 07: Exploration day at Gantey Gonpa
Gantey valley is popular for its scenic vicinity and cultural distinctness. We will visit Gangtey Gonpa - a well reputed monastery of Nyingmapa segt Buddhism that is best known for its unique and spectacular design. After the visit to the gonpa, we will make a short trek of about one and a half hour along the famous Gangtey Nature Trail. After a long day of excursion around Gangtey, you can relax at the mesmerizing evening weather at the hotel.

Day 08: Drive from Gantey Gonpa to Thimpu [2300m/7544ft] [4-5 hrs Drive]
Today we will retrace our drive route from Gantey and head back to reach the modern capital of Bhutan - Thimpu. At Thimpu we will make visits to National Memorial Chorten, National Library - for witnessing piles of priceless Buddhist manuscripts, Bhutan Folk Heritage Museum - where we can learn about Bhutanese household and lifestyle as the museum exhibits items and artifacts used in rural household. We will also visit Textile Museum - where traditional art of weaving is still preserved. There is a fine collection of old textiles with fascinating mixture of colors and designs. In the evening , walking the streets of Thimpu is a good idea. We will spend our overnight at Thimpu.

Day 09: Drive from Thimpu to Haa Dzongkhag [2-3 hrs Drive]
After breakfast at Thimpu, we will visit a Handicraft Emporium that has impressive Bhutanese handicrafts for sale. Then we will take a drive that goes through dense pine forest towards the beautiful and narrow valley of Haa.  Haa valley is a picturesque fertile valley that was closed for outsiders until 2002. We will visit Wangchuk Dzong which was built in 1915. Then, we will visit Lhakhang Karpo (White Temple) and Lhakhang Nagpo (Black Temple) that was built by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo in the 8th century. We will spend our overnight at Haa.

Day 10: Drive from Haa Dzongkhag to Paro [2200m/7216ft] [1-2 hrs Drive]
After breakfast at Haa Dzongkhag we will take a relatively short but scenic drive to Paro. We will make several stops along our drive journey for visiting sites with religious and cultural significance.  After arriving at Paro - we will have a rest much needed for the hike to Taksang Monastery (Tiger Nest) the following day. Feel free to explore the streets of Paro.

Day 11: Exploration day at Paro. Hike up to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger's Nest). 
Today we will start with a drive to Satsam Chorten. From here we will start to hike or seize a chance to ride a horse up to Cafeteria - from here on one must walk for about one and half hour to reach all the way to Paro Taktsang Monastery popularly known as Tiger's Nest. It is the most valued temple of Bhutan that literally hangs on a fascinating granite cliff overlooking the whole Paro valley below. It is believed that Guru Padmasambhava, who is widely known as Guru Rinpoche flew on a tigress' back on this site to subdue a demon. After that he stayed and meditated here for three months. The monastery was blessed and sanctified as one of Bhutan's most sacred religious sites. Cameras and Photography is prohibited inside the monastery so we will have to deposit our bags and cameras at the security entrance. We will be spending most of the day hiking and exploring around Tiger Nest Monastery. We descend back to arrive at our hotel at Paro. It is our last day at Paro before flying back to Kathmandu. So, grab a chance to peep into some souvenir shops at Paro for memory or for loved ones back home. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Paro.

Day 12: Fly back to Kathmandu
After the wonderful experience of learning the Bhutanese history, culture, tradition and lifestyle you will take a flight from Paro back to Kathmandu. Nepal Guide Trek's airport representative will pick you up at the airport in Kathmandu. Then a drive to the hotel in Kathmandu City. You will be spending one more additional day for exploring Kathmandu Valley. Nepal's largest city and capital - Kathmandu is a fascinating city where pagoda styled temples crowd the traffic into narrow paved lanes and where myth, religion and history intertwine at every corner. Remaining sites of world heritage within Kathmandu those wasn't possible on the second day can be visited at leisure.

Day 13: Leisure day at Kathmandu.
You would surely like to see as much of Kathmandu as possible. An early start is practical to visit the temples of Kathmandu. In the evening walk around the souvenirs shopping area of Thamel is worth spending quality time at Kathmandu. We will have a final meal together in the evening after the completion of the wonderful Glimpse of Bhutan Tour with Nepal Guide Treks.
