Though there is endless debate regarding its height, most people agree with 8,848 m. It is believed that Everest is growing every year by 4 mm due to shifting tectonic plates.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Department of Survey has started the venture in 2011. Though China and Nepal have two standing differences regarding the height of Mount Everest, China and Nepal agreed to measure the height of Mount Everest in April 2020. Nepal was working on it extensively since 2017 and China joined the race at the end of 2019 after the Chinese president Xi Jinping visited Nepal.
Chinese surveyors used China’s BeiDou navigation satellite system, which is believed to be a rival to the US-owned Global Positioning System or GPS.
Using the system, snow depth, weather, and wind speed would also be measured to help glacier monitoring and ecological protection.
Nepalese surveyors used GPS to make their calculations. The raw data were processed by using an internationally accepted methodology to determine the height of Mount Everest.
Surveyors from both countries have used trigonometry formulas to calculate the height of the summit. The formulas they used calculate the height of a triangle by multiplying its base with its angles. Both sides also used Global Navigation Satellite Systems to receive elevation data from numerous receivers in their calculations.
Mount Everest is our pride and it is the most important heritage for the Nepalese. It has increased our glory and identified us in the world. The peak, created over 50 to 60 million years ago, is definitely the most important peak in the world. Though there is an eternal dispute regarding its height, there is no doubt that it is the tallest mount peak of the world.
