On Arrival Visa in Nepal

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION: Government reopened “On Arrival Visa”
The Government of Nepal has recently published Travel Management Related Regulations 2078 BS for Incoming Passenger from Abroad and Outgoing Passenger from Nepal. As per these regulations, Tourists visiting Nepal will no longer have to stay in mandatory hotel quarantine for five days as long as they have a PCR negative report before they board their flight, and again test negative on their arrival in Kathmandu. They will have to stay in a hotel, observing safety protocols until the test results arrive.
The Government of Nepal has reopened the On Arrival Visa almost after two years. The tourism industry is a highly affected area since the beginning of the COVID Pandemic in Nepal. But the new regulations have spread some hope among tourism entrepreneurs. The updates say the fully vaccinated international travellers with negative PCR reports taken no more than 72 hours won’t have to stay in quarantine.

The travellers will be eligible for a visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport, as long as they can provide necessary documents about their itinerary in Nepal that is approved by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) or the Department of Tourism (DoT). While applying for a visa at the immigration entry point in Nepal, the international visitors must produce the following documents in addition to other documents:

Documents Required for Applying for On Arrival Visa in Nepal:

  • Proof of completion of 14 days of vaccination against Covid-19
  • COVID-19 Negative Report has taken no more than 72 hours before the first flight
  • Copy of Permission for mountaineering and trekking and others that require permission
  • Proof of hotel reservation
  • A printed copy of the filled form after logging into www.ccmc.gov.np (International Traveler Online Arrival Form)

Travel Management Related Regulations 2078 BS for Incoming Passenger from Abroad and Outgoing Passenger from Nepal passed by the Cabinet states: if a traveller is not vaccinated, he/she will not be able to obtain an on arrival visa but can get a visa from the Nepalese Mission in their country. Moreover, 10 days of hotel quarantine at his/her own cost is mandatory for the traveller.

An official translation of the regulation adds: ‘Tourists visiting Nepal through air route (airlines) can access on-arrival visa from the immigration desk at Tribhuvan International Airport in case Nepal’s visa is not available or difficult to avail in the tourist home country. All tourists must present the same documents at the immigration desk which are mentioned above.

It says that Indian Nationals arriving via land route must produce the print of the form filled by logging in to www.ccmc.gov.np (International Traveler Online Arrival Form) and negative PCR report not later than 72 hours to enter into Nepal. Except for the Indian Nationals, those who want to enter Nepal via land must have completed the vaccination.
