Trip Introduction:

Everest Mani Rimdu Festival Trek is a unique Buddhist cultural festival celebrated in Tyangboche Monastery, inside Everest (Sagarmatha) National Park. Mani Rimdu Festival Trekking to Everest Trek, Tyangboche Monastery is a Buddhist religious monastery located above from Buddhist kingdom Namche Bazaar. The festival is celebrated for the occasion of the great victory of Buddhism over ancient Bon religion every year in the month of November.

In the festival, monks perform a series of dance, wearing attractive yellow-red clothes and using masks.  They also perform fire puja and empowerment with the involvement of hundreds of Sherpas people from all over the Khumbu area. The Mani rimdu Festival trek is suitable for those trekkers who are interested to combine their trek with the glimpse of Nepalese cultural festival.

The trek offers the stunning view of world’s famous Mountains including Mt. Everest 8848m, Mt Lhotse 8516m, Mt. Amadablam 6812m, Mt. Thamserku 6430m, Mt. Kwangde 6200m, Nuptse 7855m, and many more snow-capped peaks. 

Mani Rimdu Festival Trek with Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition starts after a short and scenic flight to Lukla – the gateway of complete Everest and Khumbu region Trekking. Trek starts with a gentle ascend walk to Phakding and reach to Namche Bazaar. After staying safe acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar, the journey leads to Tyangboche Monastery – a place to celebrate and observe Mani Rimdu Festival.

We stay at Tyangboche for 3 days to explore and observe the Mani Rimdu Festival. After observe and explore Mani Rimdu Festival Trekking to Everest Trek the festival, our journey descends back to Namche Bazaar and then to Lukla for fly back to Kathmandu. Or one can continue a trip to Everest Base Camp and Kalapatther.

  • Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu [1345m/4411ft] and transfer to Hotel.
    Our representative from Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition will meet you at Tribhuwan International Airport on your arrival schedule. You will be greeted and then transferred to the hotel in Kathmandu city. Our staff will help you until the check-in procedure ends at Hotel. You can either have a rest at the Hotel or visit NGT’s office for gathering additional information about the trip. In the evening, join our welcome dinner program organized by Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition which may help to be close to each other individually between guests and hosts.

  • Day 02: Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla [2800m/9184ft] & Trek to Phakding [2640m/8659ft][45m fly & 4 Hrs Trek]
    Be sure your backpacks with all essential stuff are ready with you, your guide with private vehicle will be at your hotel to pick you up and transfer to Tribhuwan International Airport domestic terminal to have amazing mountain flight to Tenzing-Hilary airport Lukla – a small airstrip recognized as a world’s amazing airport is also one and only entrance and exit point of entire Everest region adventure trips. After there, we will be ready to begin a short hike towards Phakding by following a gradually rising trail that ascends through the left bed of Dudh Koshi River. Along the route, we can explore several Mani Walls and fluttering prayers flags. Finally, arrive at Phakding for dinner and overnight stay.

  • Day 03: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar [3440m/11283ft] [5-6 Hrs Trek]
    After breakfast, we start our day by crossing a small suspension bridge then continue gradual ascend through terraced hill site until reach at Bengar. A mixed combination of numerous numbers of ascends and descends will lead us at charming village settlement of Monjo where we have to get entry permit of Sagarmatha National Park before further continue the trek from there. Again we continue our trail mostly uphill through forests of pine, paddy fields as well as a mesmerizing view of Mt. Everest and Lhotse to reach Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar is a large town settlement in the remote mountain region of Nepal which is also known as the Sherpa Kingdom.

  • Day 04: A day for rest at Namche Bazaar - for acclimatization.
    As we continuously ascended high altitudes, it is the best idea to rest and explore around Namche Bazaar to be properly acclimatized and familiar with high altitudes before gaining further altitude in our next day. We can make this rest and exploration day worthwhile by exploring around the local market, visiting of a museum, interaction with local hospitable peoples. Especially for the acclimatization purpose, we can make a hike up to Khumjung monastery or an hour ascend towards Syangboche view point at 3800m altitude from where we can have an outstanding view of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kusum Kangaru and other snowcapped peaks.

  • Day 05: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tyangboche [3867m/12683ft] [5-6 Hrs Trek]
    After spending a day excursion at Namche Bazaar, feel physically and mentally comfortable to continue towards Tyangboche monastery which is our main attraction place of this Mani Rimdu Festival Trek. After having breakfast at Namche Bazaar, we continue our journey followed by a continuous long climb all the way to Tyangboche. To the right, there is a steep cliff that drops down to the Dudh Koshi, faintly visible on the valley floor below. As we ascend through the forests we can explore harsh alpine valley surrounded by tantalizing views of snow-capped mountains. Our journey continues until we reach at the stone decorated massive gate built by locals which represent our entry into Tyangboche.

  • Day 06, 07 & 08: Observe Mani Rimdu Festival at Tyangboche Monastery
    As we arrive at Tyangboche to participate and observe the most important festival of Sherpa people Mani Rimdu. Monks, decorated with special wears involves in ceremony and meditation activities. The word Mani means a chant and Rimdu means red pills use to bless during the festival time. All monks pray together with mysterious Tantra – Mantras and distribute the blessed red pills to all who attended.   The festival also includes sixteen different dances with interludes for comical effect including the very popular mask dance performed by monks. During the entire festival time, we can get lot of knowledge about Tibetan Buddhism tradition. Tyanbgoche is also a scenic place from where we can have a very close view of Mt. Ama Dablam and other snow-capped high mountains.
    After accomplishing the Mani Rimdu Festival, we can continue our journey towards Everest Base Camp and Kalapatthar Trek or retrace back our steeps via same returning trail.

  • Day 09: Trek from Tyangboche to Namche Bazaar [3440m/11283ft] [4-5 Hrs Trek]
    After breakfast, we continue our trek as we leave Tyangboche behind and trek towards Namche Bazaar. The walk from Tyangboche is mostly downhill on the main trail of Everest Base Camp Trek with a few steep climbs for an hour from the bridge at Phungetenga. The scenic and pleasant walk through Khumjung brings us back to Namche Bazaar.

  • Day 10: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla [2800m/9184ft] [5-6 Hrs Trek]
    The last day of our cultural, religious and adventurous Everest Mani Rimdu Festival Trek leads from Namche Bazaar via Monjo to Lukla. The trek is a pleasant journey, except for few short uphill climbs and then down to the Bhote- Koshi River crossing it three times. The last uphill climb of 45 minutes will bring us to Lukla.

  • Day 11: Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu [45Min flight]
    Today we will take a scenic flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu. After landing at Kathmandu airport, you will be transferred to the hotel. You can either have rest at the hotel or take a walk around the busy shopping streets of Thamel. In the evening please join our Farewell Dinner Program organized by Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition for celebrating the completion of a memorable trekking holiday in Nepal.

Accommodation:
We will provide accommodation in a three-star rated hotel in Kathmandu. During the trekking days, you will be provided with accommodation in available tea houses lodges. Your accommodation will be arranged in – Single, Double, Triple or Twin Sharing as per your requirements. Attached toilets may not be available in every teahouse lodge, so you need to get out and make use of the public toilet for your convenience.

Meals:
During your time spent in Kathmandu, we provide you BB plan – Bed and Breakfast program. However, you will be provided with all meals onboard (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) during the entire trek duration. One of the major plus points of staying the teahouses is that they serve healthy food in a very orderly manner. Dinner and breakfast will be served at the same teahouse lodge. For lunch, we will make a stop at a favourable spot en-route trekking.
Physical Conditions and Experience Required:
Everest Base Camp Trekking is a moderate and adventurous trekking trip that demands trekkers with the ability to walk 5-6 hours a day. The altitude reaches above 3500 meters from the sea level. We recommend trekkers to maintain physical fitness (jogging, cycling, swimming etc) prior to a couple of days before the actual trekking date. Mountaineering skills are not required for this trek however previous trekking experience is merit for Everest Mani Rimdu Festival Trek.
