After landing at the airstrip of Lukla, we begin our trek on the slightly rising trail towards Namche Bazaar – The Sherpa Capital.

At Namche Bazaar we will spend a full day rest for exploration and for acclimatization. From Namche, our trek continues over an ascending trail passing along Dole and Machhermo as we approach Gokyo. We will accomplish an early morning hike to Gokyo Ri from where we can enjoy the mesmerizing views of chains of high mountains including Mt Everest.

Then we will spend the rest of the day exploring Gokyo valley. From there, our trek leads towards the crossing of an adventurous and challenging high alpine pass – Cho La Pass at 5420 meters. After about four hours of steep climbing, we will reach the top of the pass from where we can have great views of snow-covered peaks such as Nirekha, Cholatse, Kwangde, and other surrounding high peaks.

We will spend some time at the top of the pass before descending towards Dzongla. From there, our trek continues towards Gorakshep which is the last stop with comfy tea houses and services. We trek further up to Everest Base Camp for achieving an experience of a lifetime and trek back to Gorakshep.   • Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu [1345m/4711ft] & Transfer to Hotel

    Our airport representative will greet you at Tribhuvan International Airport on your arrival schedule. You will then be transferred to our hotel in the heart of Kathmandu. Our staff will help you until check-in procedure ends at Hotel. You can either have a rest at the Hotel or visit NGT’s office for gathering additional information about the trek; Gokyo Cho La Pass with EBC.   • Day 02: Fly to Lukla [2800m/9184ft] [45 min flight] & Trek to Phakding [2640m/8659ft] [3-4 Hrs Trek]

    After breakfast, we will take a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, which takes around 45 minutes. Lukla is the gateway to Khumbu and the entire Everest region of Nepal. After landing at the airstrip of Lukla we begin our trek over the trail that climbs gently along the left bank of the Dudh Koshi River. Our trek passes along several mani walls as we approach Ghat. From there, our trail is a mixture of several ups and downs along the left bank of Dudh Koshi to reach Phakding for our overnight stay.

  • Day 03: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar [3440m/11283ft] [5-6 Hrs Trek]

    Today we leave Phakding and follow the trail that crosses a small stream before climbing up the terraced hill to arrive at Bengar. A mixture of several uphill and downhill trekking will lead us towards Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park Service where the park entrance fee is collected. As the mountain path zigzags uphill, we emerge at a ridge top rest area that offers excellent views of beautiful valleys and surrounding mountains. Our climb eases somewhat as the path goes along the pine forest to reach Namche Bazaar, also known as – The Sherpa Capital.

  • Day 04: Rest at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization and excursion around the places.

    Namche Bazaar is an ideal place to spend a rest day for acclimatization before we head off higher towards Gokyo valley. Namche Bazaar is an extensive market town where there is always something to see and places to explore. For acclimatization, we can take a walk up to Khumjung Monastery or make an hour’s hike up to Syangboche at 3800 meters from where we can get an outstanding view of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kusum Kangaru and other high peaks. There are also good views from the National Park Centre and Museum just above the town.

  • Day 05: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Dole [4040m/13251ft] [5-6 Hrs Trek]

    After spending a good day rest at Namche Bazaar, we continue our trek following the route that heads up all the way to Khumjung. It is a picturesque village which also has its own Gompa at the top end of town. From here we will have excellent views of Thamserku, Kantega and Ama Dablam. Soon after leaving Khumjung our trail climbs to a large Chorten on top of a ridge. We trek along a steep downhill passing through Phortse Tenga, from there our trail climbs steeply through rhododendron and birch forest towards Dole for our overnight stay.

  • Day 06: Trek from Dole to Machhermo [4410m/13578ft] [3-4 Hrs Trek]

    From Dole, our trail climbs steadily along the side of the valley, where the small and thorny bushes give way to scrub juniper as the altitude increases. We trek passing through several summer settlements, which are used when yaks are taken to these pastures to graze in the summer months. Ahead of us lies excellent views of Cho Oyu, while back down the valley are the stunning views of Kantega and Thamserku. This is a short trekking day, so we will arrive at Machhermo in time for lunch.

  • Day 07: Trek from Machhermo to Gokyo Lake [4750m/15580ft] [4-5 Hrs Trek]

    Today we trek towards the pristine and crystal clear glacial lakes of Gokyo. After breakfast, we begin to descend following the melt-water Rivers of the Ngozumpa Glacier. Soon our trailheads for a steep climb through the rocky trails into the valley. We will pass through the first of the holy lakes. Soon we arrive at the second lakes, crossing the path which heads across the glacier to Cho La Pass (5420m). The third lake is known as Dudh Pokhari and on its eastern shore is the settlement of Gokyo.

  • Day 08: Hike to Gokyo Ri [5340m/17515ft] and Excursion in and around Gokyo valley.

    Gokyo Ri looms above the village on the northern edge of the lake. We will accomplish an early morning hike following a steep path up the hillside. As we climb, the summits of Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu slowly come into sight and the view from the summit of Gokyo Ri itself, is one of the finest to be had in the Everest region – some say it is even better than that from Kala Patthar. After spending some quality time at Gokyo Ri, we descend back to Gokyo. We will spend the rest of the day exploring around Gokyo.

  • Day 09: Trek from Gokyo to Dragnag [4650m/15252ft] [3-4 Hrs Trek]

    Today is a rather short trekking day. After spending a full day exploration around Gokyo, we will follow the trail that crosses the most impressive glacier in the entire Everest region – Ngozumba Glacier. With great views of surrounding high peaks, we will leave Gokyo and trek towards Dragnag for our overnight stay. We need as much rest as possible for the crossing of Cho La Pass, the following day – which is covered with ice and snow most of the time.

  • Day 10: Trek from Dragnag to Dzongla [4843m/15885ft] via Chola pass [5420m/17777ft] [6-7 Hrs Trek]

    Today we start early as we head for the crossing of challenging Cho La Pass. After breakfast, we leave Dragnag and follow the trail that ascends slightly along the valley and steepens as we approach towards the pass. The Cho La Pass is most of the time covered with blue ice giving its trekkers a chill feeling. During the crossing of the pass, we can enjoy the panoramic view of several snow-capped mountains along with the Gokyo valley. From the top of the pass, our trail descends steeply down for about an hour and then slightly descending all the way to Dzongla for our overnight stay.

  • Day 11: Trek from Dzongla to Gorakshep [5180m/16990ft] via Lobuche [5-6 Hrs Trek]

    After breakfast, we leave Dzongla and trek towards Gorakshep. Our trek goes over the trail that crosses the Khumbu Glacier. Khumbu Glacier is the highest glacier in the world. Along the route, we can see the memorials of people who died on the glacier. After crossing the glacier we continue our trek on the trail that heads towards Lobuche. From there we trek until we arrive at Gorakshep for our overnight stay. Gorakshep is the last stop with comfy teahouses and services.

  • Day 12: Trek to Everest Base Camp [5380m/176465ft] and back to Gorakshep [4-5 Hrs Trek]

    After having our breakfast we will trek towards Everest Base Camp. We will follow the trail that weaves through ice pinnacles and over the crevasses of the Khumbu Glacier. During the spring season, we will meet some expedition team on the Everest Base Camp. After witnessing a great moment at Everest Base Camp we will retrace our steps back to Gorakshep. Alternatively, we can take a higher route for spectacular views of the Khumbu icefall and the surrounding high mountains.

  • Day 13: Early Morning Hike to Kala Patthar [5545m/18177ft] and trek to Pheriche [4250m/13940ft] [6-7 Hrs Trek]

    Today we will accomplish an early morning hike to Kalapatthar at 5545 meters which are considered as one of the best viewpoints of the Everest region. From the top, we will enjoy the magnificent sunrise view over Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kantega and other surrounding peaks. After spending quality time at Kalapatthar we descend downhill back to Gorakshep. From there we will prepare for our return trek and follow the trail that passes through Lobuche and continue trekking until we reach the windy village of Pheriche for our overnight stay.

  • Day 14: Trek from Pheriche toTyangboche [3850m/12528ft] [4-5 Hrs Trek]

    At Pheriche, we will pay a morning visit to the research centre. Then we will have our breakfast and continue on our return trek following an easier descent leaving the high alpine vegetation and entering the subtropical environment, passing through rhododendron forest and continue trekking as we approach Tyangboche for our overnight stay. In the evening we will have great views of Ama Dablam and the beautiful valleys with lush green hills which is definitely a great feeling.

  • Day 15: Trek from Tyangboche to Namche Bazaar [3440m/11283ft] [4-5 Hrs Trek]

    After breakfast, we continue our trek as we leave Tyangboche behind and trek towards Namche Bazaar. The walk from Tyangboche is mostly downhill on the main EBC trail with a few steep climbs for an hour from the bridge at Phung Tenga. From there, our trek is a scenic and pleasant walk through Khumjung village that will bring us back to Namche Bazaar for the overnight stay.

  • Day 16: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla [2800m/9184ft] [5-6 Hrs Trek]

    Today is the last day of this adventurous Gokyo Cho La Pass with EBC that leads from Namche Bazaar via Monjo to Lukla. The trek is a pleasant journey, except for few short uphill climbs and then down to the Bhote- Koshi River crossing it three times. The last uphill climb of 45 minutes will bring us to Lukla. We will celebrate the completion of the trek with the crew in the evening.

  • Day 17: Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu today we will take a scenic flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu.

    After landing at Kathmandu airport, you will be transferred to the hotel. You can either have rest at the hotel or visit world heritage sites of UNESCO inside Kathmandu valley. Besides taking a walk around the busy streets of Kathmandu can be worth spending some quality time in Kathmandu.

    You would surely like to see as much of Kathmandu as possible. An early start is practical to visit the temples of Kathmandu. Gokyo and Cho La Pass Trek is one of the famous and challenging treks of the Everest Region. This trek is also known as Everest Circuit Trek. This trek has been categorised as one of the most adventurous trek of the Everest Region.

The most challenging section of Gokyo and Cho La Pass Trek is the hike across Cho LA Pass (5420m) that covers both the Gokyo Lake and the Everest base Camp (EBC). You may have a few exciting ascent of Gokyo RI, Chukkung RI and Kalapathar during this trek. The trail affords the most appealing view of Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Best Season for Gokyo and Cho La Pass Trek
Trekking and Hiking are the most popular leisure activities around the world. They can be great pursuit of happiness if they are secured and successful. Therefore, before undertaking these activities we must be very clear about when to go.

Hiking in Nepal can be done throughout the year. Autumn and spring are the best seasons to go on trekking in Nepal. Every season has something distinct. Autumn season lasts for September to November and Spring Season lasts for March to May. To visit almost all regions of Nepal these two seasons are ideal.

During Spring Season Nepal experiences moderate climate. The hills will be veiled with the blossoms of Rhododendron, orchid etc. Autumn Season is the loveliest season in Nepal. The temperature is warm even at the Mountains. The days will be clear which affords the best mountain views. These two seasons are perfect for every part of the country.

Winter season (December to January) is little colder at the Himalayas. The precipitation will be at the form snowfall. However, the days are still warmer with plenty of sunshine. The rainfall is occasional. If you like to travel in peaceful trails and can cope up with extreme cold weather, you can choose winter season.

Work one after proper planning and much preparation never fails. Trekking and Hiking is also such a event which requires a lot of preparations. These pursuits require a good level of physical fitness. Not only good physique helps you out, but also a mental strength is vital. If you have undertaken some smaller hikes earlier, trekking will be much easier for you. You need to be familiar with trekking and climbing gears. Besides that you need to be aware of basic climbing and mountaineering skills also depending upon the difficulty level. Cardio, yoga, jogging, running, swimming, etc. helps you to build up your physics. Stress Endurance Practice helps you to build up your mental capacity. Similarly, have plenty of hygienic foods including protein, carbohydrates and minerals. Here are some tips for preparing for any trekking/Climbing or Hiking in Nepal:

  • Go for a run or hike to hills where you have to do ascents and descents.
  • Once a week, do a long walk.
  • Swim and cycle.
  • You can also go up and down the stairs of a tall building.
  • Eat healthy food.
  • Keep on doing yoga. If you can, do more yoga related to breathing.

Altitude Sickness
Altitude Sickness is also known as Acute Mountain Sickness. It is a medical condition when our body could not adjust to the environment due to the low level of oxygen in the air. At high altitude, the level of the oxygen in the air is thin due to which our body can not adjust easily to the environment. Normally, it is more common above 2500 meter above the symptoms.

Common Symptoms: Headache, Nausea, Dizziness, Vomiting, Fatigue, Loss of Appetite, Trouble Sleeping etc.

Types of Altitude Sickness:

  • Acute Mountain Sickness: It is very common at high altitude and can cause vomiting, dizziness, nausea etc. overall, it is the mildest form of altitude sickness.
  • High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE): It is a very dangerous and life threatening conditions because fluid is built up in the lungs.
  • High Altitude Cerebral Edema (HACE): It is the most severe stage of Altitude Sickness because fluid is built up in the brain. It is life threatening one. The victim will be unable to walk, breathe and ultimately in Coma.

If you realize any other symptoms associated with Altitude Sickness other than Headache, just change your elevation. If the symptoms are severe, you need immediate medical attention. You need to consult with a physician. The best treatment of Altitude Sickness is to climb down as low as possible. If you are at a very high altitude, just climb below 4000m. If you have High Altitude Cerebral Edema (HACE) , you might need a steroid called Dexamethasone. If you have High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE), you will need supplemental oxygen and other medications.

The best way to prevent Altitude Sickness is to have a lot of Acclimatization. That simply means climb high and sleep low. Here are some of the basic guidelines for preventing Altitude Sickness.

  • Do not climb hurriedly. Keep your pace steady.
  • Do have a lot of acclimatization.
  • Do not drink alcohol or do not smoke.
  • Drink plenty of fresh water.
  • Eat plenty of hygienic foods.
  • Use Diamox Pills 24 hrs prior to the climb.

There won’t be much varieties since the will have to carry the entire camping and kitchen instrument with themselves which is practically very difficult. But we strive hard to provide healthy food with added delicacy.

We offer you a three star accommodation while in Kathmandu. We will be staying at the available lodge or teahouse on the trek. Some of the trekking regions have adequate teahouse whereas some are very remote and we shall depend on Camping. You have to be ready to spend night under the tent for some days in some places. Otherwise, we shall provide you a comfortable stay at hotels with en suite bathroom and hot showers. The rooms will be single or twin sharing as per the availability.
