Trip Introduction :

The tour offers you an insightful cultural immersion in Bhutan. An incredible journey to Druk Yul is a complete tour experience of the historical and cultural significance of central Bhutan. A short tour of Bhutan covers cultural, religious, and spiritual experience by exploring and visiting the several heritage sites monasteries, monuments, museum & beautiful valleys.

Awesome Journey to Druk Yul with Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition starts with Paro flight from Kathmandu. We travel and explore Paro and Thimpu then to wangduephodrang. Along with cultural sightseeing tour, we can have amazing views of snow-capped mountains.

In Paro, we will visit Ta Dzong Museum, Rimppong Dzong and Taktsang Monastery. In Thimpu, we visit National Chorten, Changangkha temple and ancient scriptures. Our journey leads to visit Wangduephodrang and then to Punakha. Beautiful Punakha valley provides to explore Punakha Dzong and Chimi Lhakang.

Wangduephodrang and Punakha Dzong reflects a wide range of cultural values preserved in Bhutan for hundreds of years. After there, we back to Paro for international departure. 

  • Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu [1345m/4411ft] and transfer to Hotel.

    Our airport arrival and departure representative will meet you at Tribhuvan International Airport on your arrival schedule. You will then be transferred to the hotel. Our representative will assist you until check-in procedure ends at Hotel. Either you can have a rest at the Hotel or visit NGT’s office for a brief discussion about the trip. In the evening, join our welcome dinner program organized by Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition Team.

  • Day 02: Sightseeing world heritage sites at Kathmandu

    Note: It is not possible to visit all world heritage sites in Kathmandu within a day. So you can choose at least 3-4 places for day sightseeing.

  • Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Paro [2200m/7216ft]

    Today you will be transferred to International Airport for a scenic mountain flight from Kathmandu towards Bhutan’s only International airport at Paro. You will be greeted by Nepal Guide Trek’s representative at your arrival schedule at Paro Airport. We will then drive towards Paro City for having Lunch. After lunch, we will visit Ta Dzongs which is an ancient watchtower that was converted to the National Museum of Bhutan in 1968. We will get a brief glimpse of Bhutanese history, culture and tradition at the Museum. Then, we will visit Paro Rimpung Dzong which is located below the National Museum. A short distance of walking will lead us through are several numbers of archery grounds where we might get lucky to catch an archery match in action. As a matter of fact, Archery is the national sport of Bhutan. We will spend our overnight at Paro.

  • Day 04: Drive from Paro to Thimpu [2300m/7544ft] [1 hr Drive]. Sightseeing tour at Thimpu.

    After breakfast, we will take an hour’s drive towards the modern capital city of Bhutan – Thimpu. At Thimpu we will make visits to National Memorial Chorten, National Library – for witnessing piles of priceless Buddhist manuscripts, Bhutan Folk Heritage Museum – where we can learn about Bhutanese household and lifestyle as the museum exhibits items and artefacts used in a rural household. After lunch, we will visit the Textile Museum – where the traditional art of weaving is still preserved. There is a fine collection of old textiles with a fascinating mixture of colours and designs. We will also visit the Handicraft Emporium that has impressive Bhutanese handicrafts for sale. In the evening, walking the streets of Thimpu is a good idea. We will spend our overnight at Thimpu.

  • Day 05: Drive from Thimpu to Wangduephodrang [3-4 hrs Drive] visit Wangduephodrang Dzong

    After breakfast, we will take a drive from Thimpu to Wangduephodrang. Along our drive route, we will make a stop at a tea shop on the top of Dochula Pass at 3050 meters. From the top of the pass we will have magnificent views of Himalayan Ranges of Bhutan including the highest mountain in Bhutan – Mt. Gangar Punsum 7520 meters. Our drive journey descends into the lower valley of Wangdue. We will visit Wangduephodrang Dzong which was founded by Zhabdrung in 1638 on top of a high ridge between Punak Tsang Chu and Dang Chu. Accidently the Dzong caught fire on 2012 and was virtually destroyed. Funds were raised and immediate process of reconstruction and restoration has undergone for re-generation of the Dzong’s image. The famous Tsechu festival is held here in the final days of the autumn every year. However, during the construction, the festival is held on a field at the nearby Army Training Centre. In the evening feel free to stroll around the town of Wangduephodrang and spend the overnight here.

  • Day 06: Drive to Punakha [1350m/4428ft] [1 hr Drive]. Sightseeing at Punakha. Evening drive to Paro [2200m/7216ft] [4 hrs Drive]

    After breakfast, we will take a drive towards Punakha which is about an hour’s drive from Wangduephodrang. At Punakha, we will visit Punakha Dzong (second oldest and second-largest Dzong of Bhutan) – a fortress that was built in 1637 by Zhabdrung Rinpoche. Punakha Dzong is remarkably located between the two rivers of Mo (Female) the Chu and Pho (Male) the Chu and houses the most elaborated temple in Bhutan. It is the ancient capital of Bhutan and served as the winter capital (settlement) for more than 300 years. Then we will make a hike through pleasant paddy fields and farm houses to arrive at the temple of Chimi Lhakhang. Chimi Lhakhang is the famous fertility monastery that was built in 1456. The temple is significantly associated with the religious arts of Bhutan. We will spend some time exploring around Chimi Lhakhang before heading back to our hotel at Punakha. In the evening we will take a short drive from Punakha to reach Paro for our overnight stay.

  • Day 07: Fly back to Kathmandu

    After the wonderful experience of learning the Bhutanese history, culture, tradition and lifestyle you will take a flight from Paro back to Kathmandu. Nepal Guide Trek’s airport representative will pick you up at the airport in Kathmandu. Then a drive to the hotel in Kathmandu City. You will be spending one more additional day for exploring Kathmandu Valley. Nepal’s largest city and capital – Kathmandu is a fascinating city where pagoda styled temples crowd the traffic into narrow paved lanes and where myth, religion and history intertwine at every corner. Remaining sites of world heritage within Kathmandu those weren’t possible on the second day can be visited on the leisure day at Kathmandu.

  • Day 08: Leisure day at Kathmandu

    You would surely like to see as much of Kathmandu as possible. An early start is practical to visit the temples of Kathmandu. In the evening walk around the souvenirs shopping area of Thamel is worth spending quality time at Kathmandu. We will have a final meal together in the evening after the completion of the wonderful Glimpse of Bhutan Tour with Nepal Guide Treks.
