Trip Introduction:

Kalinchok Cultural Trek is a perfect opportunity to explore the cultural as well as natural beauties of the eastern Nepal. The trek is a cultural experience and is one of the amazing trekking trails in Nepal. Our magnificent trek passes through several cultural villages inhabited by different tribes and communities, allowing us to experience variety of cultures and traditions including their daily activities for survival and their fascinating lifestyle.

The main highlight of the Kalinchok Cultural Trek is a visit to Kalinchok Bhagawati Temple at an altitude of 3790 meters. The temple is dedicated to Hindu Goddess Kali and has huge religious significance among the Hindu people of Nepal. From the top of Kalinchok, we can enjoy great views of Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Gauri Shankar, Lamjung Himal, Langtang Himalayan Range, Shisha pangma, Dorje Lakpa and other surrounding mountains.

Kalinchok Cultural Trek is an excellent trekking for those wanting to explore the natural wonders as well as experience the medieval cultures with religious interests in Nepal. Kalinchok Cultural Trek with Nepal Guide Treks starts at Kathmandu. After spending a full day sightseeing at Kathmandu, we will take a four hours drive from Kathmandu to Barabise – the starting point of the trek.

From Barabise we will start our trek passing through several traditional villages mainly inhabited by Brahmins, Tamangs and Sherpas. Every now and then we will pass through monasteries and temples with religious significance. Proper acclimatization is necessary in higher altitudes, therefore we will spend a full day at Shigate for acclimatization and exploring around Shigate.

From there we continue to follow the trail that passes through dense Rhododendron filled forest towards the highest point of the trek Kalinchok than at 3790 meters. Kalinchok Bhagawati Temple is dedicated to Hindu Goddess Kali and it is believed that the Goddess ‘ Fulfills the Wishes’ of its loyal devotees. Besides, we can enjoy excellent views of mountain ranges including Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Gauri Shankar, Langtang and other surrounding high mountains from the top.

National flower of Nepal – Rhododendron (Laligurans) decorates our trekking trails and the National bird of Nepal – Lhophoporus (Danfe) can be spotted during our wonderful trek. After spending some quality time at Kalinchok, we will make a gradual descent to reach Charikot – the ending point of the trek.   • Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu [1345m/4411ft] and transfer to Hotel

    Our airport arrival and departure representative will be at Tribhuvan International Airport on your arrival schedule. You will be transferred to the hotel and our staff will help you until check-in procedure ends at Hotel. Either you can have a rest at the Hotel or visit NGT’s office. In the evening, join our welcome dinner program organized by Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition Team.

  • Day 02: Sightseeing at Kathmandu

    Note: It is not possible to visit all world heritage sites in Kathmandu within a day. So you can choose at least 3-4 places for day sightseeing.

  • Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Barabise [819m/2686ft] [4 hrs Drive]

    After breakfast, we will take a drive from Kathmandu towards Barabise. Our drive goes through zig-zag hilly roads with good views of surrounding areas. The drive journey is about 4 hours. We will have the opportunity to observe the activities of local people for daily life survival while our drive passes through several towns and villages.

  • Day 04: Trek from Barabise to Ahgeri Kharka [1035m/3394ft] [4-5 hrs Trek]

    We start our trekking from Barabise. We will follow the trail that passes along several villages inhabited by Brahmins and Tamang ethnic communities. We will trek through beautifully terraced farmlands to the open fields of Ahgeri Kharka.

  • Day 05: Trek from Ahgeri Kharka to Biku Gompa [2310m/7576ft] [5-6 hrs Trek]

    From Ahgeri Kharka we will continue to follow the trail that climbs gently passing through several monasteries and temples with huge religious significance. We will trek through scattered settlements of mainly Brahmins, Tamang and Sherpa tribe communities. We continue to follow the trail that goes through densely forested area to the lone monastery of Biku Gompa.

  • Day 06: Trek from Biku Gompa to Shigate [2654m/8705ft] [5-6 hrs Trek]

    After Biku Gompa we will continue to follow the trail that passes through several villages inhabited by Sherpa tribe communities. Our further uphill trekking through dense forest filled with rhododendron trees leads us to our camping site at Shigate.

  • Day 07: Acclimatization/Rest day at Shigate

    We are gaining altitude day by day. Therefore, we will take a day rest here at Shigate for acclimatization and exploration. Acclimatization is very essential to avoid mental and physical illness. Besides, the mesmerizing view of the surrounding valleys and high mountains is what Shigate has to offer to its visitors.

  • Day 08: Trek from Shigate to Junggepati [2980m/9774ft] [5-6 hrs Trek]

    From Shigate we will continue to follow the trail that heads further to higher altitudes through a forest filled with rhododendron trees. Along the trek, we will pass along several traditional villages where we can observe their daily activities for survival. We will continue our trek until we arrive at Junggepati where there is a good camping site.

  • Day 09: Trek from Junggepati to Kali Pokhari [3210m/10528ft] [4-5 hrs Trek]

    Leaving Junggepati we will follow the trail that has several ups and downs. We will trek through terraced farmlands and dense forest areas to reach Kali Pokhari. If we are lucky, we will have a chance to spot Danphe (Lhophoporus) the National Bird of Nepal.

  • Day 10: Trek from Kali Pokhari to Kalinchok than [3790m/12431ft] [5-6 hrs Trek]

    From Kali Pokhari we will make a steep ascent all the way to Kalinchok than at 3790 meters. On the top, there is a temple dedicated to Hindu Goddess Kali. From the top, we will have magnificent views of Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Gauri Shankar, Lamjung Himal, Langtang Himalayan Range, Shisha pangma, Dorje Lakpa and other surrounding mountains.

  • Day 11: Trek from Kalinchok than to Charikot Bazaar [1554m/5097ft] [4-5 hrs Trek]

    Today is the last day of our trek. After spending quality time at Kalinchok than, we will follow the trail that descends all the way down to the busy market town of Charikot Bazaar. Charikot is the main administrative centre and headquarters of Dolakha District.

  • Day 12: Drive from Charikot back to Kathmandu [5 hrs Drive]

    After having our breakfast, we will pack all our gears and get ready for a scenic drive from Charikot that will take us back to Kathmandu. It will take approximately about 5 hours to reach Kathmandu while we drive over zig-zag hilly roads.

  • Day 13: Leisure day at Kathmandu

    You would surely like to see as much of Kathmandu as possible. The world heritage sites inside Kathmandu, if not visited on the second day of the trip can be visited on this day. An early start is practical to visit the temples of Kathmandu. Also, walking around the shopping area of Thamel is worth spending quality time at Kathmandu. We will have a final meal together in the evening.
