Trip Introduction :

Tour to Lhasa not only offers a visit to the capital city of Tibet but also offers Tibetan culture, tradition, unique arts, architectures, heritage with several monasteries and monuments. Generally, a popular tour of Tibet covers main 4 towns they are – Lhasa, Tsedang, Gyatse and Shigatse. Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition has designed this tour trip which is suitable for all travelers who are very much interested to visit most popular sightseeing spots within a numerous number of days in central Tibet.

Tibet Popular tour of Tibet with Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition starts with a flight to Lhasa airport. In Lhasa, we will visit the popular places such as Potala Palace, Norbulingka places, Tibet Museum, Barkhor Bazaar, Sera Monastery, Drepung Monastery and Jokhang Temple. In Tsedang, we will visit Samye Monastery, Chim Phu Caves, and Yambulakhang Place.

Similarly, in Gyantse, we will visit Gyantse Dzong, Phalkot Monastery, and Khumbum Stupa. Then our tour also visits Shigatse with sightseeing of Salu Monastery and Tashilunpo Monastery.   • Day 01: Fly to Lhasa and transfer to Tsedang [3550m/11646ft] [95km - 1.5 hrs drive]

    Our representative from Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition will greet you at Lhasa Gongar Airport on your arrival schedule. Then you will be transferred to Tsedang which takes approximately around two hours of drive journey from Lhasa. As we have reached over 3,500 meters above sea level, it is best that we rest at the hotel at Tsedang and probably take an evening’s walk around Tsedang for acclimatization process. We will spend our overnight at Tsedang.

  • Day 02: Tsedang to Lhasa [3600m/11808ft] [Visit Samye Monastery, Chim Phu Caves and Yambulakhang Palace] [8-9 hrs ]

    After breakfast, we leave Tsedang and drive back towards Lhasa. On our way back we will visit Samye Monastery that was built in 770 AD by Guru Rinpoche and is Tibet’s first Buddhist monastery with a history of around 1200 years. The monastery is situated on the north bank of the Yarlung Tsangpo river. Then we will visit Chim Phu Caves which is located just above the monastery. These caves are used in order to meditate in peace. After exploring around the caves we will pay a visit to Yambulakhang Palace which is situated above the Yarlung River valley. From there we can enjoy magnificent views of the entire valley. We will arrive at Lhasa for the overnight stay.

  • Day 03: Lhasa Sightseeing [Potala Palace and Norbulingka Palace]
    After breakfast, we will visit the Potala Palace which is one of the most monumental of structures in Tibet. The massive palace was built around the 17th century. We will explore and reveal the enormity of Potala Palace which was designed to serve numerous diverse functions. It was the place where Dalai Lama and his large entourage resided and where all the ceremonies were held. All administrative and political decisions concerning the country were made from here. The sacred images, spectacular tombs of Dalai Lamas, large chapels, storage chambers, treasuries – all contribute to Potala’s extraordinary status.

    After lunch, we will visit Norbulingka Palace which was established by the Seventh Dalai Lama, Kelsang Gyatso around the 18th century. Since the middle of the 18th century, the palace has been the official summer residence of the Dalai Lama. The palace consists of more than 400 rooms and chapels. Besides, the ‘ Jewel Park ‘ or the garden of the palace is highly acknowledged for being the biggest man-made garden in the whole Tibet.

  • Day 04: Lhasa Sightseeing [Sera Monastery, Drepung Monastery & Jokhang Temple]
    After breakfast, we will visit Sera Monastery which was founded in 1419 AD by Sakya Yeshe – a principal disciple of Tsong Khapa. The complex of Sera comprises of ‘Tsokchen’ (Great Hall), three ‘tratsangs’ and thirty ‘khangtsens’. A khangtsen is a residential compound with chapels reserved for monks coming from different parts of Tibet, whereas a tratsang is an educational institution that offers specialized studies to monks.
    Then we will visit Drepung Monastery which was founded in 1416 AD by Jamyang Chöje – a leading disciple of Tsong Khapa. The major structures of the monastery follow a simple architectural comprising of a courtyard, a large hall and inner chapels. Also, the tombs of three Dalai Lamas are sited at Drepung. Around 500 monks and their young novices have returned to live at Drepung since the early 1980s.

    Our next attraction destination is the Jokhang Temple. It has earned its reputation as Tibet’s most sacred temple. The temple was built by King Songtsen Gampo in the 7th century. The vast majority of its extant statues dates from 1980 onwards whereas most of its murals are from the 18th and 19th centuries. We will explore the temple’s rich historical artefacts that have been well preserved.

  • Day 05: Drive from Lhasa to Gyantse [3950m/12956ft] via Karo La Pass and Yamdrok Tso Lake [325km - 6 hrs Drive]

    Today we will take a drive from Lhasa to Gyantse, and drive passing through Lake Yamdruk Tso – one of the 3 largest sacred lakes in Tibet, Karo La Pass at 5,010 meters offering mesmerizing views of high mountains and valleys. Our drive goes through clean rivers, vast pasture grounds, herds of sheep and yaks as we approach Gyantse. We will visit Khumbum Stupa and Phalkot Monastery at Gyantse. Since we have a rather short day’s drive the next day – we will visit Gyantse dzong in the morning, the following day. Overnight stay at Gyantse.

  • Day 06: Drive from Gyantse to Shigatse [3900m/12792ft] [95km - 2 hrs drive]

    Today is a rather short day of driving. After breakfast, we will visit Gyantse Dzong (fortress) which is one of the best-preserved dzongs in Tibet. Then we drive towards Shigatse – second biggest city of Tibet. At Shigatse, we will visit Tashilungpu Monastery – which is the official Panchen Lama’s residence built around 1447 A.D. The monastery demonstrates strong uphold of both cultural and historical aspects founded by Gendun Drup, the First Dalai Lama.

  • Day 07: Drive from Shigatse to Lhasa [280 km - 5 hrs drive]

    After breakfast, we will drive from Shigatse and head back towards Lhasa. Our drive passes through Gyantse and follows the same route all the way back to Lhasa. Enjoy the stunning views of colourful valleys and breathtaking mountains as we drive through numerous roadside villages and yak herders camps to arrive back to Lhasa. In the evening we will take a walk around the busy market of Barkhor Bazaar. The open-air stalls, souvenir shops and crowds of pilgrims truly make this market the centre-point of Lhasa. After a long day, we head back to our hotel for the overnight stay.

  • Day 08: Fly from Lhasa to your preferred destination.

    Our representative will drop you at Lhasa Gongar Airport as per your flight schedule for flying back to your preferred destination.
